IN PROFILE: Glen Winter [VIDEO]

So with Wentworth and Dominic Purcell working together again as Captain Cold and Heatwave, I was curious to know if the Legends cast would be working as one team or pairing off. “It’s like Ocean’s Eleven” Glen explains. “There’s a bunch of scenes where they’re all together and you get all the banter and all that stuff, and then there’s scenes where they’re going to go off and do little missions in groups or pairs, and start having different dynamics – relationships, alliances, jealousies and all that”. He adds “There’s no leader, but there’s people who think they’re the leader!” The characters we know now will be the same, but as guest stars with little dimensions their characters will be need to be fleshed out and humanised.

Glen on The Flash and Arrow:

Talking about gauging the tone of the shows, Glen says, for example with The Flash he didn’t know how it would work on screen till he read the script for his first episode ‘Going Rogue’ then it all made sense, and he could see how it would work. Personally I think this is one of The Flash‘s strongest episodes so far. Glen is not a comic book aficionado, but really brings the characters to life, especially for a new generation, many of whom have never read a comic or seen these characters before – educating us about the DC universe. So how does this make him feel? “I think it’s awesome, I love that’s it’s become homogenised and is not just the comic book geeks. What’s also awesome is the fact that these shows are all tied together has created an environment where it does feel like a family, like a DC universe.”

It seems Glen’s son Max is the DC nerd in the family, and may be following in his father’s footsteps, shadowing him when he returns to direct The Flash in January. “He knows more about the shows than I do!” Glen laughs. On casting the title roles with Stephen Amell as the Arrow and Grant Gustin as the Flash he says when he met them he knew they were right for their roles.

Flarrow GW

Glen with Marc Guggenheim and the cast of Arrow and The Flash

With so many spin-offs I wondered will Berlanti/Kreisberg/ Guggenheim’s team be considering any more? Will their new show Blindspot be connected somehow? Glen explained so far there are no plans for more shows from Berlanti’s team – but you never know! “Once you start making too many shows the quality goes down, as (Berlanti, Kreisberg and Guggenheim) can only do so much.” They certainly do have a lot on their plates!

It was a true pleasure meeting this wonderful man and I can’t wait to see what he brings next to our screens!
